STAR Exemption Saves Home Owners Money

If you own a home in New York state, you're eligible for the STAR exemption:

The Basic STAR exemption is available for owner-occupied, primary residences regardless of the owners’ ages or incomes. Basic STAR works by exempting the first $30,000 of the full value of a home from school taxes.

According to the Beacon Assessors office, if you apply for your STAR exemption now, it will kick in for next year's taxes. Could save you a few hundred bucks come next tax season. You can reach the Assessors Office by calling 838-5025.
