The Poughkeepsie Journal is reporting today that Beacon police officer Jose "Tony" Rios was honored for saving an infant's life one year ago this month. As the story reports, Officer Rios was at home last November when he heard a woman screaming. When he ran outside he discovered found the woman holding a child who was no longer breathing. Officer Rios administered CPR while having someone else call 911. The Journal states that it was Officer Rios' quick response that saved the child's life.
Kudos to officer Rios for his quick response and for his service to the community both on and off duty.
Boy-i wish i had seen this when it was first posted-apologize to all
Officer Rios did not save the infants life, nor did he provide any assistance other than holding the infant for approximately 5 minutes
the infant never stopped breathing and in fact had simply gagged on a small piece of paper; however, the mother felt as if her daughter was in respiratory distress and ran to a neighbors house [not rios's] that neighbor assured the mother that the infant was breathing, but called for emergency services as a precaution
rios then came to the neighbors house followed by ems-no one provided any type of cpr/first aid or other emergency services
Officer Rios does not deserve your kudos
it's a shame that with all the publicity this incident has generated that no one contacted the neighbor or the infants mother regarding the events of that day
