Add one more indignity to the long list of hurricanes, tsunamis, insurgencies, beheadings, election disappointments, and terrorist attacks suffered in 2004. Over the New Year holiday my bike was stolen from the train station. And so, I need to add a new category to this blog: Crime. Ugh.
Not that it was worth anything. I'd been riding that Wal-Mart special down to the train station every day for the past 2 and a half years, regardless of the weather. The brakes were rusting shut, the gears were a mess. But it still got me down the hill in the morning. My hypothesis: a drunken reveler got off the last train to Beacon on New Year's, found no taxis, and decided to take the next best thing: my bike. Long story short, I need to find a "new" bike. If anyone has an old beater they'd like to sell me for a fair price, I'm game. Just email me, and we can follow up offline. Let's hope 2005 has a bit more cheer in store...
mine beats yours: someone stole my 9 year old son's bike from inside our garage. not to mention the stereo they ripped from the car. yes, there is certainly crime in beacon. what about the graffiti problem? booggy anyone?

Do you really think that this compares to the disasters you mentioned? Thank God it was only a stolen bike.

Mike-
Mark Roland from Iron Fish usually has a few bikes around that he is fixing up. You may give him a shout. Sorry about your bike.

You're right, not even the same category. But it did seem to punctuate a generally lousy year.

Ya know, this time of year lends to reflection. I was just thinking about what it might have been like to have been born into a culture that had no crime or sorrow. Then I got to wondering, I might as likely have come forth in a space and time before the wheel, instead of beneath it.
I like your outlook of maybe someone else needed it more than you. And it helps to know that on occasion, even today, everything comes round; that is, you might even get it back.
Never surrender hope nor hindsight!
